Hi Guyz,
Any one from IBM ?
I went through the entire recruitment process and got selected for IBM ISL. Now I am being told by the HR that they are unable to release offer as there is a hiring freeze.
Can any one please tell me if its correct or just an excuse not to give me offer. If its true, when will this freeze be removed?

I treat rent the same as debt for these kinda purposes and try to keep my debt to income ratio less than 33%. Assuming you have 0 debt, using my model, $5.5k is fine.
Agreed. Also one bed is $4k now in NYC nowadays so don’t think you have much room to go down
Rent is just a debt accumulated over time
Mostly worth it tho’ over a period of a month or more, depends.
You should treat it as a serious debt, but don’t go past your income on monthly bases for a monthly rent regardless. My thoughts tho’

$5.5k is low. You could spend double that.
Lol not really if they’re planning to get any enjoyment out of nyc. If they’re single, no kids, no friends, no interest in saving, and enjoy not eating and spending most days/nights watching Netflix then sure.
Especially since I’m assuming it’s not $370 base. Probably at least a third of that is bonus dependent. Monthly cash flow would get tricky very quickly at $11k rent.
OP it sounds right for Manhattan. You didn’t mention how many bedrooms or other aspects of your life, but in general i would try to not go any higher. Assuming you still want to save and enjoy the city and travel and eat at fun restaurants and go out with friends and all that stuff, it should work.
