Also, before you move, I’d recommend trying to do a quick visit to scope out these areas and see what feels right for you. It’s hard to catch the vibe without actually being there
Sure, we will plan to visit before hand
Check out North Park. In terms of finding a place, it’s going to be tough. Housing is very competitive. When my wife and I moved here from DC, we first moved into a fully furnished rental for a couple months and then once we were here, we went apartment hunting. You pretty much have to be ready to pounce on something the day it becomes available.
I’m 27 and live downtown right across the street from petco park. I love the vibes around here, everyone comes from all over to see baseball and concerts and is so happy to be here. Rent is decent compared to other parts of SD, and lots of apartment options compared to beach towns. Lots of bars and restaurants, homeless is average for any large city. Homeless gets bad east of 11th ave FYI. GL
I’d agree with that. Homelessness is a huge problem here.
I currently live in North park and I just moved here , I recommend it based on the other areas I’ve seen!
I live in SD and for a younger person I would say North Park, downtown area, PAcific Beach,
Mission Beach area but it depends on what area you will be working in because traffic will be tough. It is a great place to live. Let me know if you need some additional help.
I have a condo in mission valley available for rent let me know if interested in taking a look I can connect you with my property management company
North park 100% for a nyc person that wants bars
We moved to Mira Mesa 2 years ago and it’s very quiet and quaint, we really enjoy it
Commuter traffic can get a little crazy so keep that in mind but Mission hills, hilcrest, banker hills, north park, and South Park are all very walkable with tons of restaurants/bars/grocery stores/etc. I lived in north park and mission hills and always felt safe. Little Italy is great too but can be on the louder side and difficult to drive through during busy times. And I agree with others re: Pacific Beach. It’s fun during the day but the crowd is soo young (college age). If you like the beach vibe, Crown Point is good but the walkability score is lower. Good luck!!
Redfin, Craigslist, and various FB groups. Best places to live for 20-30 YO’s are Little Italy, Ocean Beach, Point Loma, Pacific Beach (very young and rowdy but a great place to be), and North Park. Apple is a little further north so maybe look into La Jolla and some quieter areas such as Mira Mesa and Santa Arminta. If you want to go way north that’s cool too, Poway, Oceanside, and Encinitas are cool.
Check out UTC. I believe that’s where Apple is and it’s got a handful of places you can walk to/close by. A few new luxury high rises in the area or some older places around too. And not quite as spendy as some of the trendier areas. Plan on having a car - hard to get around otherwise.
Edit: I have a brother in north park so I can park and visit there easily which does provide access to that fun area when desired. The lack for parking, homeless, and pricey housing is the only downside there.
Mission valley has a lot of new luxury apartment complexes, trails nearby for hiking and whatnot, and plenty of amenities and shopping centers
Zillow and Trulia are good places to look! I believe Apple is located in University Area, so you can find many options nearby. My preference is anything walkable to the beach. You will have to compromise some amenities if you don't want to pay high rent too.
Mira Mesa and Sorrento Valley are great places if you are planning to start a family and closer to corporates
Mission beach, ocean beach, north park are all great!
Redfin for sure and Zillow found a lot.
Hi! Welcome to SD!! First of all, I agree w most of the above. It really depends on what’s important for you.
I live in Kearny mesa and it’s nice and moderate pricing for an apartment. I love that I’m in the center of San Diego so it doesn’t take long to get around. I also live near the Asian district so I have easy access to amazing food.
Another idea to look at if your bf works in Sorrento valley, you may want to look in Mira mesa- since it’s also moderately affordable and an easy commute.
Bankers hill is great. Its really nice and the vibe is good. It also feels really safe and the people are really friendly. I would highly recommend it to anyone new.
