How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

I changed from graphic design to UX at age 40. It’s not too late to make the move. My visual design experience definitely helps in my new career, but I’m careful to not put form over function. You CAN go to a UX bootcamp, but I’ve heard mixed reviews on that subject. With your background in engineering, a bootcamp like Udacity may help tip the scales in your favor and assist in building a portfolio. My degree is in graphic design, but we have others on our team from psychology, writing, and one who transitioned from software/product support with no degree at all.
Thank you so much. I'm sorry I didn't get a notification that you had responded. But this was very helpful. Really appreciate it!
Hey. Try adplist for mentorship. It’s free to connect with design professionals and ask them questions.
I just finished my UX diploma at UX design institute at age 28.
Building my portfolio now and starting a project for some extra experience before I start actually applying.
Lots of people on my course have managed to land roles just doing the course though
