This is why I secretly avoid 1:1s with my manager!

Definitely using both of these.

My company, Pegasystems, is agressively hiring for Senior Solutions Consultant (presales) positions nationwide. If you are interested in working for an amazing company with market leading products and a great culture, please message me. Happy to discuss further. Assuming you are reasonably qualified, I can provide a referral as well.

I guess that's what you did wrong - being in a group that doesn't receive preferential treatment in tech hiring. I feel like the optimal play is always to be helpful and cooperative no matter how unjust it is, since that's your best shot at getting promoted back.
It’s true. I applied for a management role and instead of being hired I was asked to train the manager they went with. Personally it hurt but I decided that if my team were to be successful I would train this new manager to the best of my ability. I was eventually promoted to a different role in management which was even better than the one I originally wanted.
Stay humble, keep jobing it, be a problem solver. The person hired over you may have leadership, education, and other things you don’t have right now. Ask them to mentor you. Stay humble keep grinding.
Clearly, she is an abuser and hence why they hired her over you. She owns you, and she knows that, too.
My advice is to find a better job ASAP. This will not end well.
Dig deep and hire a career coach. Be very limited and how you help the person who was hired in your stead.
You may not know how the hiring decisions have been made. Maybe someone recommended this person or through other means.
But interviewing is a skill that one needs to develop - that takes practice. It’s not just important to have technical expertise for the job, these days one must be able to communicate well.
I have total empathy for your situation. Depending on your location it may seem like bad times . There is a flood of people looking for anything and everything. Layoffs new grads and folks looking to move up. Forget about remote work that’s unicorn right now. Hold out for a few months as companies start their first and second quarters hopefully by then things will level out. Try to brand out if you are in infrastructure look into dev or security. Widen out your skill sets . Keep your head up
There is so much bad info in here. No one knows how to follow anymore, just get offended and yolo right? Forget using wisdom over feelings, right?
Listen just stay the course and chose your next move on waiting and patience. I’m a millennial and it’s so easy to be great today. Everyone just seems bent on listening to bad advice. I’m just promoting right past them. 😂
depending on you relationship to her, her to her manager, and you with her manager. You can always go talk to her manager and promote yourself by tactfully let them know you are doing the managers job
Be a valuable member of your team , be helpful, try to stay positive and, above all, avoid becoming resentful. At the same time keep looking for better opportunities, be very active looking for a new job.
Staying this course you'll either find a better job or will get noticed by your company. Either way you'll be playing for success.
Best of luck!
Perhaps I am wrong, but it sounds to me like she may have been a DEI hire and is unqualified for the job.
i wouldnt show her a thing, then re express this to upper management. if they change nothing, then bail out and leave them to deal with their problems.
