I work in the industry
If they’re currently using TXU they’re getting ripped off and you should find another company. Generally speaking you want to stay as far away as possible from companies that advertise since that’s their only real expense and it makes those plans way more expensive in general.
Go to PowerToChoose.com which is regulated by the State. Always choose a fixed plan, ideally without any base fees or minimum usage fees.
Avoid too good to be true plans that offer anything “Free” like free nights and weekends. They end up charging you through the roof when it’s not free and it’s effectively impossible to come out ahead
Thank you. Appreciate the insight.
Pretty sure all of Texas is choose your own reseller
Nah, just it’s mostly just the Houston and DFW areas.
Austin and San Antonio there’s only one provider, most small towns there’s only one company as well
My neighborhood is in a Co-op so I don’t have a choice for electricity and natural gas, it’s not TXU though.
I was told recently by an electrician that some parts of DFW are in coops and the rest are directly getting electricity from Oncor and can choose their intermediary. I’ve lived in Lake Highlands, Colleyville, Uptown, and Plano over the course of my life and that was the first time I had heard that coops existed for electricity in DFW.
It’s like being forced to pay one company for services. Luckily Coserv has been pretty great on pricing
I always check Power To Choose every time my contract is up, and then pick the best option from there
Not sure why people are talking about Oncor. That’s not what this person is asking about. I used TXU for years, great customer service and terrible prices. Try Power to choose as recommended above. You might need to sign a short contract till you understand how you use electricity in your home year round.
I only have one option in my area so not much of a choice
You can use any provider
Please check out Energy Ogre before you sign up for any plan.
