Honestly done with Big Law, and maybe even done with being a lawyer in general. I'm tired of the favoritism, office politics, microaggressions, and subjectivity and bias in all of it. Lowkey regret being a lawyer. Are there other careers and industries out there where I wouldn't have to deal with this BS?

I hear you. It is never ending. But leaving won’t help you, at least not long term, but it will allow them to win. They subject you to the crap to gatekeep. And your leaving means helps to ensure that it will never improve for the next crop of Black & IPOC lawyers. A circle jerk that keeps us back & lets the barbarians thrive. You think those failed up mediocres like JD Vance, Josh Hawley, Amy Coney Barrett & Trump ever think they shd quit? Never! Your future children, nieces & nephews, upcoming lawyers need you. Call out the BS. Why not? You want to quit anyway. Once you get comfortable in your skin you’ll become more comfortable in the space. When you are more comfortable in the space, you’ll be more comfortable taking up the space & demanding respect within it. Speak! Chances are, you’ll discover the earth didn’t shatter & they’ll learn to check themselves before taming reckless to you.

P2: Absolutely failed up mediocre. He, like many racist fascists try to hide this by using a few multi-syllabic words in an imperious tone which can fool Trump’s uneducated. We see guys like this in our profession all the time.

Unless you end up starting your own business, I think there will always be office politics and backroom games played.

Sorry that this is happening to you. Unfortunately, this sort of stuff is prevalent in other industries as well. It is more about picking your poison. At least we get paid well to tolerate this BS.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Please consider other areas of law and smaller firms, nonprofits, government agencies, contract positions and even solo practice. You might find a better fit and perhaps even some deep satisfaction in your ability to do great things, albeit maybe for less financial gain-at least in the beginning. I wish you all the best.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate all the responses. I'm planning on leaving this firm anyway and have received offers from other places. Have yet to accept one of these offers.

I'm just afraid of the cycle continuing at other places, though I'm no longer some naive young mid 20s kid anymore. I've seen a lot and know what I'll be getting myself into if I accept one of these offers at other places.

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.
