Lol I know the feeling, little one was up at 3am ready to play! Hope you have a great day and even better sleep tonight!
Just because they haven't themselves priced the plan for 15 years, doesn't mean the advisor hasn't and hasn't changed the lineup to an institutional lineup. Just be careful going in and thinking to go after just fee. If that's the case, you are only one advisor away to come in lower than you. Look at plan design, how their business files, and what the goals of the owners are. See if they are maxing put contributions, exercising profit sharing, etc.
Traditional 401(k) Plan design may not even be the best fit. For medical groups, there are other plan designs that are more beneficial for the dentist(s). If they are in a traditionally designed 401(k), the biggest value you can bring them may be in plan design so the dentist(s) can contribute the maximum amount possible. If you aren’t familiar with this area, call a local TPA and have them walk you through plan design options for medical groups. Fees are important, but so is the ability to defer as much as possible.
If you don’t know what to ask for, are you sure you want to be the advisor on their plan?
Summary Plan Description, 408(b)(2), balance by investment for the plan and the plan review report provided by the recordkeeper.
Wasn't trying to discredit you, hope you didn't take it that way; I agree if you don't know what to look for group retirement planning isn't something to get into. Usually it's one of those things where you have to put both feet in. I was more/less sharing my thoughts on the post about it being hideously overpriced. No malice here my friend!
You should look the plan up before you go. Brighscope.com, check the 5500 so you know what you’re looking at. Do you know the language? Safe harbor, profit sharing, new comparability, highly compensated... set yourself up for success with the information already out there. Don’t just sell on price. Someone will be cheaper later. Sell on service you can provide them.
Maybe think about partnering with an experience pension firm. I partner with Alliance Benefit Group of Michigan (member firm of national ABG LLC). Look for a member firm in your area. I share in their advisory fees for the solicitation for the life of the plan. Retention is excellent!
If you are looking for someone to take on some of the fee comparison or quote gathering I’d be happy to help out. Connecting with a local TPA can helpful as they see a variety of scenarios and pricing.

Wow. Almost guaranteed to be hideously overpriced.
@Kingsview - so sorta what I just said and not your original post?
Only kidding! Apologies - no harm taken. Been up with 2 kiddos since 4:45am. Hope you have a good one - good luck today bud
If he doesn’t know what to ask for then do the research. So something like asking a question on fb or googling?
