It could be bad luck. Could also be how much more competitive it’s become since the pandemic. And yes, it could be that your work sucks.
If it’s your book I’d actively ask for portfolio reviews from seniors and CDs, and then try to make changes or new spec based on feedback.
The market is VERY saturated with people looking for work since the pandemic. I doubt it’s you.
As CW1 said, keep making things and updating, ask CDs for portfolio reviews. You’ll get there.
I think over the past year it’s all been about experience, persistence, making improvements, networking, and timing/luck. I kept applying and networking, but then hiring freezes happened and interviews stopped. So I kept working on my book and stayed in touch with my friends from school. One of my friends told me about an opening at my agency and referred me, the timing worked out for me, I was lucky. Stay persistent and stay in contact with people.

You don’t need to suck much at all. It’s hard out there right now. Stay hungry and know that you’re not the only one.
Are you getting interviews and just not landing the position? If so, obviously you’re fine, but might need to refine your book, brush up on your interview skills, and start networking more.

Several interviews. Even getting turned down from Pharma with some Pharma experience.
Don’t get too down on yourself. We’re in one the worst recessions and job markets since the Great Depression and 2008. Like others pointed out, perhaps a portfolio review or a mentor could help you gauge where you maybe can improve if it is something to do with your portfolio? Hang in there and remember tough times don’t last, tough people do. Best of luck to you.
