Just jump. Your T2 would fire you without a second thought the minute they thought you weren’t a good fit. You need to look out for you, and frankly everyone at MBB will understand why you jumped so nobody will question the timeline of moving so quickly. You’ll probably be black listed at your current firm and might have to pay back any signing / relocation bonuses but that’s a small price to pay.
these were my thoughts as well; we can be dropped like a sack of hot potatoes for fit reasons/layoffs at any time, so it shouldn’t be up to us to fulfill some higher moral obligation to our employer, as that seems like an awfully one-sided deal. agreed on the returning bonus part as well—it’s a small price to pay. thank you loads for your perspective.

No one in an MBB will care tbh, they may ask why you are leaving so soon, but after you get in - it won't have any implications. And it's so short, you could always leave it off your resume as a career break later on.
great advice, thank you! helps assuage some nerves. quick follow-up: what seems like a reasonable answer for why so soon for the switch? is it okay to to point to XYZ projects at MBB and say I prefer those over what I’m currently doing? basically asking if they won’t write that off as bs given that I haven’t been doing said projects for very long.

Why not just apply to MBB? Your profile won’t really change much from 4 months of T2. You can prob interview straight to MBB if you’re getting T2
T2 reached out to me. put out feelers for MBB through friends but their experienced hiring was nonexistent by the time I could make the jump; just unfortunate timing.
Why would you do that? It will look obvious your trying to break in especially during this time when employers are going for a tight ship approach. I’d say pick as role that best fits you. T2 stay Atleast a year grind get a promo then jump ship to MBB. The promo will even bump your pay when jumping over.
Well then would that mean someone could jump from being an engineer pm to a T2 lower level?
