Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

My understanding is that they seek industry pros for experienced hires. They want somebody with domain knowledge- not consulting knowledge who are a dime a dozen from their internal pool of talent which replenishes from the bottom up. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Probably a silly question, but how does one simply network with the right people in this instance if they have zero exposure on a day to day basis. Cold contacting through LinkedIn?
It’s possible. It’s just a harder path that’s less probable. But if you spend about a year preparing for case interviews, planning your approach, and networking—it’s possible. Trust me. 😉
I only had an undergraduate, and I went from management consulting straight into core strategy consulting. Not a specialist.
It’s all Down to networking. I got interviews again at Bain and BCG after first year of big 4 post mba. Made decision rounds in both but no cigar

I got a McK interview and actually went to the final round when they said the only feedback we have is apply as soon as you can coz we loved 3 people including you and had only one role. Then got calls from BCG as well. But had a change of heart and didn’t want to do the crazy hours anymore. So exited consulting. Several of my friends joined MBB or got calls after big4. So definitely doable.

No, as soon as they had a relevant role in that team. I never went to b-school. So..!
Doable based on LinkedIn searches. Networking is probably key?
Networked my way to an interview at BCG - went up to decision round interviews but had a bad day (at least that’s what I tell myself).
Me: 2 years as a BA, 1st year C at Uncle D. Good luck OP!
Yesss, I think bcg is actually the best shot, they are open to interviewing more people in my opinion.
I’ve met former Deloitte and Accenture consultants who moved to McKinsey, so it happens
If you do it earlier in your career with good networking it’s doable .... otherwise do it later when you have expertise that will be attractive to one of the premium firms
