Posting here bc this bowl skews toward consultants. I'm considering a strategy consulting-like role. I have assumptions, but want to validate realities. Any tips on books, blogs, podcasts etc?

if I can piggyback off this question... what is the difference between strategy in a consulting firm vs a strategy department in an agency?

Undergrad at a feeder school, consulting in a few industries, MBA from top tier, industry (one for which they had consulted) for a bit then back to consulting in a specific space based on that industry experience.

Without an MBA you can typically only have a few job levels, then the MBA pops you up to the next level*. If you go to a Consulting feeder school for your MBA you can get a job following the degree (or in the summer between years) and do not need the prior experience.

*in pharma you can, I believe, also reach these levels with a PhD or medical degree.

You may have more luck in the Consulting Bowl.

We use frameworks to validate assumptions through our Strategic Design and Product Management roles for building products. Topics you could look into: design thinking, diverge/converge, assumption mapping, design sprints, lean ux.

BCG has other business units that focus on digital product development and venture/startup work. From my knowledge, there are people in those divisions that do not have MBAs. Real world experience definitely is important for those roles.

Feeling so down right now…I spent months trying to get into a tech company. And when I finally got in, I was then laid off two months into the job. This past month, I applied to 300+ jobs and had 30+ interviews. None of them led to offers due to hiring freezes or internal hires. I just went through 10 interviews with a non-tech company and I don’t know if I will get an offer. I am just so tired of everything. If anyone knows of any PM roles (hardware/software), please let me know. YOE: 2

Hey! I've always wanted to get into IB (prestige, money, you name it), however now that I'm in a more laid back environment (better WLB, "easier work") it doesn't seem as attractive as before and the pay is quite good for an analyst level (I think the pay is competitive even comparing with IB's pay in my country) . I wanted to know if anyone had the same experience and what were your thoughts (pursue an MBA and leave your comfort zone and "good pay" or just stick with it). TIA!

Hi all, I got laid off from my current company (product based) a month ago. Since then I've been looking for new opportunities. I got an offer from a good product based company with a good package and also my current company offering me rehire with promotion and a good package. I have a good rapport with my current manager, and he played a major role in offering this rehire opportunity. I'm confused about making the right decision here. Kindly share your views. Both offers are pretty much same.

Are aggressive non-competes show stoppers for direct admit partners at MBB & T2? I'm a partner at a small boutique firm and we have very tight non-competes. Biggest issue is a 9 month period before starting new role at competing firm. I'm being recruited by a few firms. The recruiters seem to think it's a non issue but wonder if when it gets to offer stage it becomes a show stopper when partners realize I may not be able to start for 9 months. How do your firms handle these situations?

Do any carriers in Europe pay salaries equal to their American counterparts? I’ve found that the salary for my role is pretty much halved across the Atlantic.

I know that my company, Chubb, does and from time to time they have rotational programs where not only do you maintain your US salary but you also get COLA and a housing allowance, unfortunately nothing right now nor permanent.

Another option would be insurance companies that pay your American salary while working abroad.

Any leads?

I have been with my current company for about 3 years now and currently at 75k plus employer paid benefits and decent pension plan. Due for review next month and expecting to be offered a 5k raise. However with 6 years of relevant experience I would like to be close to 85k. We hireda new team member for the same role as me as the business is growing. They came in at 75k which bothered me a little because I pretty much began this department and put in a lot of processes. More in comments.
