Kids clarify career path
If you do it right, in few months your kid is going to take a much larger part of your future than your career ever did. Relax, survive, you’ll have a completely different perspective on life.
Chill until you have your baby. Maternity leave gave me a lot of time to think about what I wanted from my job. The opportunity cost is higher now; before I was fine to waste 50 hrs/week in a job I didn’t love. Now time at work is time I’m not spending with my family. TLDR I came back from mat leave, spent a month feeling things out, applied to other jobs and hopped when one felt right. I also wanted to time it so I could onboard when I was done with nursing, the things you think you won’t care about become different when the baby is in your arms.
I took leave for my first child just as I was being tasked to incubate a new product and team. The job was there where I left it and my team stepped up to fill the vod while I was going. Only collateral was that one of my employees left because he got a taste of leadership and he moved to another department in the company to advance his career. But that's a win for everyone.
Do it. You'll be fine.
