How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

Parents - do any of you truly regret having kids?

I’ve become negative about my life and can only think how I’ve been wronged, how I’m stuck, and frustrations w/ various circumstances in my life. They all feel connected in a cycle I can’t escape bc it’s all cause and effect ending up back where it started. I can’t find where to break the toxic cycle of negative in my life or how to make those circumstances better. I feel my life has backed me into a corner. Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.
