I had severe lower back pain and tried everything. What eventually worked was a few sessions with a good chiropractor. The sessions had two components: adjustments and targeted massages based on which muscles were tight. Haven’t experienced back pain since then despite no changes in my life style.
I suffer from chronic back pain due to herniated discs and spurs. What works best for me is seeing a chiropractor once or twice a month for adjustments, daily yoga/stretches and a good 60-90 mins hot yoga sessions. Also getting your psoas muscles activated and stretched helps a ton. There are a lot of youtube videos on this.
I also noticed inflammation and pain reduces when i eat less greasy and carb loaded food. I had most benefit when I was doing keto/low carb diet. Just couldn’t sustain that life style in the long run.
Finally get a good supportive mattress. This makes a big difference even if you don’t do all the above suggestions. Also, get a coccyx seat cushion. This helps relieve some pressure off your spine and sacrum while sitting at the desk. Be very conscious of your posture. Do Epsom salt warm/hot baths at night. Hope these suggestions help!
Pro
I second all of these except hot yoga (way too hot for me).
But especially the combination of chiropractor, massages, yoga and diet is important. Add calcium and vitamin D3.
Try see a ortho/back specialist and a physical therapist so they can assess what’s causing it. It could be coming from poor arch support, tight hamstrings, disc, spinal stenosis, muscle imbalances, etc... see if they can help you treat the cause vs the symptoms and you’ll be better off in the long run.
If you want to go the chiropractor route, I would suggest finding one that works in conjunction with physical therapists and athletic trainers vs just a straight chiropractic clinic. While I do go to a chiropractor, many don’t have you do the therapy to maintain proper alignment and just keep having you come in for adjustments.
If you haven’t seen a doctor, please do. They will recommend tests and then next best plan of action. Self cures can possibly worsen your condition.
Consider going to a good chiropractor.
Slip disc and a back compression fracture
What worked: vitamins , physiotherapy
Also realizing that consulting isn't worth it
Vitamin d3, calcium, zinc and folic acid
You need to strengthen your core muscles... yoga/pilates + chiropractor/physical therapy
Standing desk
Buy a Herman Miller Aeron or something similar; buy a standing desk with shock absorbent mat to stand on.
Get a tens unit
+ the above advice from others
Strengthen back muscle and not stay sedentary in a single position for too long.

Not medical advice, but my parents got one of those teeter inversion tables and it helps with stretching out their spine

Oxy ♥️
Jk. Don't.
Sleep on the floor ...no mattress. Reduce weight by controlling your diet. These worked for me significantly. Although my back pain was in very initial stages. Try it out for a few days and if it does not work, do other more advanced remedies our friends suggested here.
If you see a chiro , make sure they focus on heat and electric stimulation before they adjust you or you are gonna a be sore and back might tighten up
Good evidence that mindbody approaches also help chronic back pain. A friend loves Curable and had been recommended surgery initially but now has very little to no pain.
Try doing plank for 60-90 seconds couple of times in a day, you will get good relief.
I had slipped disk in my back out for about 6 months. Couldn’t sit down, couldn’t sleep, bought a standing desk because it was the only way I could work. Went to pc doc, chiro, PT, ortho. Took steroids, all pain pills, etc.
Long story short, didn’t want surgery and started walking 2-5 miles a day. Pain went to away in about two weeks
Before my back pain hit me strong 2 weeks ago, i used to walk/run 3-5 miles at least every 2 days and at this point i kinda suspect if it worsen my back. Thanks for sharing tho!
I have chronic back pain from various injuries and shoulder injuries and purchased an Obus Forme back pillow and it’s truly changed my pain. Highly recommend
Deadlifts and squats. I had 3 slipped discs. Did physical therapy, chiropractor, dry needling, cupping, massage, hot yoga, cortisone shot, kneeling chair, sleeping on sting, sleeping on side, sleeping on floor….All was temporary. But squat and deadlift built more muscle around there and got the groove right again.
