Definitely want to hear what other people say ab this but the way I would personally do it is like:
Company A
Newest Role 2020-2023
[Bullet points]
Old Role 2015-2017
[Bullet Points]
Company B 2017-2020
[Bullet Points]
That way its still mostly in reverse sequential order but it isnt taking up a bunch more space? It would also help if you had a title change between company A and B. And if anyone asks in the interview, you could just say like "i really loved working at company A but i changed jobs because we relocated or they gave me [a better offer or a title change or whatever] and when company A was able to offer me career advancement opportunities i was happy to go back
But make sure to not phrase it like "hi company c, im just applying here jntil i can go back to company A again"
I returned to a company after a few years. I keep the two roles separate and in chronological order. It allows me to highlight the different responsibilities and accomplishments of each. And TBH no one ever asks why I went back.
I like boomerangs: it indicates they were considered good enough to be rehired.
I would format it in such a way that showcases I’m a boomerang.
And for additional context, this was a lateral move from my previous agency that laid me off to my current company (where I “boomeranged” to when I previously worked there pre and during COVID -era).
