How do you handle drinking and adderral? Before y’all hang me, just finish reading. Been on adderall a month and have found myself in two occasions where I was asked out to happy hour for networking and just to get to know my coworkers. (I am fairly new to my firm and want to make sure I built relationships with my coworkers). Anyways, I’ve been able to not drink those two times but I know more are ahead. Admittedly, I do want to be able to have a glass of wine here and there! cont.

I think the issue is stimulants allow you to drink more without feeling the “drunk” effects and they also chemically combine with alcohol to make you feel really good. So it’s a recipe for drinking too much and/or being compelled to take more adderall. However, if you don’t have addictive tendencies or a history of substance abuse, a glass of wine will not likely have negative ramifications.

I, on the other hand, will be 17 shots of whiskey in and railing lines of adderall in the bathroom if I mix it with alcohol

funny

I don’t think taking adderal as prescribed in the morning and going to happy hour for two drinks is the type of mixing alcohol and adderal anyone is worried about

like

🥲 it’s what I’m worried about but glad to know I’m just overthinking it.

I’ve never noticed any difference in drinking before I started taking adderall versus now. It doesn’t affect me any differently whether I’m only having 1-2 drinks or going harder. If anything, I drink less now because I’m not using alcohol to self medicate for untreated mental health issues. If you’re worried just take it slow and make sure you are with someone you trust in the unlikely event that it impacts you.

I’m not much of a drinker and I’ve never thought about or had issues with this tbh. I just drink as usual (which isn’t much, drink or two). Never noticed a thing.

like

Not a big drinker either so I usually keep it to one or two! Glad you didn’t notice anything! Makes me feel better. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think Adderall is contraindicated with alcohol. I have 2-3 drinks on occasion and have never had any side effects.

If I know I have an event where I’m likely to have a couple of drinks after work, I will generally try to skip my afternoon dose and only take adderall in the morning. That being said, I’ve never had any negative experiences when having a couple of drinks after taking my afternoon dose, I just find that I’m also a bit more social and relaxed if I skip the pm dose

Advice on how I can better handle those situations? If I do drink, any signs I should look out for that things aren’t going to end well?

One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?
