Get a $10 lamp and place it behind your computer facing you - that’s good lighting right there.
I wouldn't care. Just so long as you're not someplace public or someplace grody. Also good lighting and not a lot of background noise.
I recommend using a zoom background to hide the kitchen. As for the virtual background, it doesn't have to be blank. Plus it could be a good ice breaker.
As for lighting, sit in front of a window if possible. If you dont have any good lighting I recommend turning on an extra source of light and placing it in front of you. This could be turning on an extra monitor and raising the brightness, the tv and leaving it on a channel with lots of brightness (no volume!), or putting a lamp in front of you. Test it all out before your interview. Good luck!
I got a cheap three panel cardboard meant for science fairs and prop it on an end table behind me, now doesn’t matter what’s behind me and easy for me to stick a post it note saying when I’m on a call. I just leave it set up all day so I can pick up calls without needing to scramble for the background. If you prefer a zoom background it helps the software do that better too since it’s just looking at the one background color. I’ve also seen some places selling a pop-up background with it’s own stand. This is cheaper😊 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GXBYTI/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o1_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Doesn't matter, just don't have too many visual or aural distractions (TV, kids running around, a weird painting that looks like splattered/dripping blood) in the background. If there's a lot of city noise, I'd consider getting a proper headset that drowns out background noise.
I attend Zoom hearings all day every day in my clerkship. The background isn’t crazy important; most judges understand that the pandemic has forced many attorneys to work in atypical environments. You should try to keep your background tidy to reduce distraction, but other than that, you should be okay. When it comes to fake backgrounds, however, judges are a little less understanding because you CHOSE the background. If you use a fake background, be sure to pick something with muted colors, sedate, professional. Don’t pick something like a beach, or a fancy courtroom, or a school emblem. Keep it simple and clean, so the focus is on you.

I vote for good lighting over blank background, but make sure your kitchen is spotless! Also, I echo others. You can fake good lighting with a lamp placed in front of you with a neutral colored lampshade or a sheet of white paper in front of it to diffuse the light.
