Make $120k Accenture now doing tech implementations, just got offer 200k TC EY business consulting. I love my job, have a great WLB (working 20 hours per week, no travel, clear path to M in about 1.5 years) - am I an idiot for even contemplating staying? What I would be doing is more PPT/functional vs Onestream/technical which I do now.

McKinsey is full of Econ majors who will do anything including stay up for several nights in a row to get that A+.
BCG is full of Econ majors who will stay up all night debating microeconomics over beer.
Bain is full of Econ majors that socialize and party late into the night.
The work they do largely overlaps but the personalities and work styles are quite different.
The phrase "Vainies, Brainies, and Bainies" has not been entirely off in my experience.
Vainies being McKinsey, Brainies being BCG, and
Bainies being well... Bainies. You can get a lot of stories about each firm illustrating their unique culture or lack thereof. You'll feel it in the 1-on-1's.
They all have the potential to do the same type of work, but the concentration of practices varies by office across firms. All up-or-out.
DD1 - 20% leave every year. Relatively few actually get officially counseled out. Most people who aren’t going to cut it just leave if their own volition - it’s miserable here if you’re not performing.
IBM1: for BCG, a referral isn’t a guarantee of an HR screen or interview. It means someone will read the application, but the background needs to be right. GPA, test scores, etc are data points that are evaluated
They’re all morons
I’d say Bain is prob the one that’s slightly different from McKinsey
They are more similar than different. Especially if you’re also considering Big4 or industry.
What percentage of people get coached out? Without including the people who leave on their own
BA1 - very funny. And true in the way that all good stereotypes are grounded in some truth. But there is much office/practice variation across and within the firms.
So what percentage does that add up to for the people who leave because they simply can’t make it + the people who get coached out?
Curious to know the stats I should have if I’m interesting in lateraling? Even if you’re referred do you need to include gpa, gmat, transcript on hand? More specifically for 2 years of work exp
At the C level I’d say about 1/3 get counseled out before the PL promotion
Does MBB still care about SAT scores (got a 1220 which sucks) if you have 5+ years of work experience and a gmat score of 720+? Never got my mba though.
Depends what you do. Digital is the Wild West, if you have the skills something will be overlooked. Don’t know if that’s universal, but it’s true here.
