These days it’s pretty common to stall out at L5 for quite awhile (5+ years) even if you’re really good. You basically have to transfer w level change or stick it out and hope the opportunity comes in your org. The former is really the only way you can take matters into your own hands

Hard lol. None of it is easy.
It depends on the team and you. My team promoted 2 L5 ICs to L6 in last promo cycle, who were in role for roughly 3 years. TLC is tough, but many do it. As a manager, if I have a high performing IC and no level cap, I’d try to best to promo and retain them
Got through L5 to 6 in 2.5 years which I believe was delayed by 6 months due to politics. So if you are strong enough in the eyes of leadership you will get there
Thanks, do you know what is L6 level comp for non tech roles? i heard around low 400s for VCHOL?
I got shut down for promo in 3 consecutive cycles for L5 to 6 despite meeting the 2 criteria for sufficient scope and performance each time, and despite getting in the top 4-20% rating each time.
Got the transfer with level change after giving up on the promo path
