Had a take home analytics project. They said 2-3 hours (what a joke), ended up taking 7-9 + prepping for the 30 minute presentation they wanted (3-5 hrs)
I appreciated the use of a project because I didn't do the best on my whiteboard rounds, but would appreciate either appropriate scoping or proper expectation setting.
Had one recently for a start-up final round that was to create a 15-20min presentation on a fairly broad topic and asked to spend 90min on prep. Since I had 5 days before the interview I of course ended up spending about +2hrs/day until the interview for well over 10hrs including rehearsing. Went well though. I felt it was a reasonable ask in terms of the task given the nature of the role, but would have preferred a shorter timeframe actually since I think having more time just made me stress the prep more.
Had a take-home for Google. I got any 24hr period of my choosing over the span of a week to complete it, so I just blocked out a Saturday for it. I’ve heard these are pretty common for Uber as well.
I’m usually pretty transparent with my recruiters regarding my work and travel schedule. They’ve all been really gracious about scheduling assignments and interviews during Fridays or weekends only.
I’ve had similar experiences as C2. Said it should take 2 hours, ended up taking 15 or have had ones say it will take 15 hours of effort.
Every start up will ask to do assessments, which I feel is extremely unfair given that they’ve only invested 30-60 min of their time with you (since it’s usually given after the initial HR screen or hiring manager call) but yet they want you to dedicate 2+ hours to days of effort for you to only get rejected. It’s truly made me hesitant to apply to jobs with them because I never pass and I feel I waste so much time and stress for nothing.
A friend had a weeklong data science project from capital one when he was interviewing for them
1- was a salesforce test but they gave me a week to do it. They gave it as a preliminary to get a call back.
I took a 2 hours Uber analytics test and did a take home case for a venture firm that took 15 hours over 2 days, it’s so tiring but hopefully worth it!
I always refuse to do them
Huh interesting. So like how do you justify to them not doing it? Like what’s your explanation?
