4-6
5-6 years
Chief
5-7 is the typical range assuming homegrown, with up to 10 on the longer side. There are exceptions, of course, but most will likely be in that ballpark.
If they've jumped around firms, that timeline goes out the window.
And if you’ve never worked in consulting before then you could have 20+ yrs of experience but get downleveled to SA until you have at least 2yrs in consulting
I did it with 3 years of full time exp post undergrad, anything is possible if you work hard and surround yourself with people who are smarter than you.
Pro
Typically a minimum of 5 years out of undergrad or 2-3 years out of an MBA program.
But obviously there are outliers for high performers or people who have significant experience pre-MBA.
If you’re home grown , 5 years at least. Based on my exp at EY ( 2 years Staff, 3 years senior ).
6-8 at deloitte out of undergrad (2 A, 2-3 C, 2-3 SC)
Yeah :( by the time I get close it’ll be 9-10
4-15
~4 years if you started at entry level (typically right out of undergrad), or 2 years if you start at a post-MBA position.
8 amd counting, and no room for upward mobility as we are already top-heavy. “No business need.”
For sure less than 40 years
