How much does it cost to rent a home in Austin? Thinking of moving there but I’m seeing a wide spread on home rental prices. Thinking something simple, maybe 2000 sq ft.

It will depend a lot on which neighborhoods, but Rental prices are really incredibly low right now. Most are dropping rent several times before they’re able to get them rented out - my current house in 1600 so ft, the renters before me were paying 2,500/mo and I’m only paying 2,000/ mo. So now is def a good time to move compared to a few years ago

yeah north austin is so affordable. im downtown and pay 3k for 890sqft but i love the experience of living in a skyhome and im single. prob moving back north after my lease is up to save some money lol

Northwest Austin - 2300-2600 for around 2000 sqft. Depends a lot on school district …landlord here.

I'm gonna start renting mine in the fall.

$4k-ish a month for 2k sqft 4/2 house. 8k lot in Allandale (10 min from downtown).

Completely renovated.

That's for perspective.

$4200 for a 3/2 @2000sf on the edge of Eanes (Senna Hills) here

House down the street 4/2.5 @3000sf rented for $4000 a few weeks ago

Market definitely softening a bit

2.5miles from the domain 2022-2024 3bed/2.5bath 1990sf with a big fenced backyard was 2600. Would imagine the prices have come down a bit

3100 for a small older 4/1.5 in Austin proper. 2 bedrooms and 2 small office/activity rooms. Before that 2800 for a small but new 4/2 about 25 mins from city center.

Renting a house is a pain here. The landlord have more rights than tenants in Texas. Landlords will make you pay for house repairs. Also, In the state of Texas you have provide you own appliances. Refrigerator, washer, and/ or dryer.

1500 sf in North Austin Braker area is $2500 month

Moving to Houston and am looking in the Garden Oaks and Heights areas but I can’t get over the the new million dollar homes next to the $800k houses built in 1980’s. Does anyone live in an area like this? Is there a name for this? Other than a gentrified area? What are some things to consider if buying in an area like this? Are neighbors ok knowing that they’ll eventually be bought out or get to a point they can’t afford the property taxes? TIA for any insights!

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?

I rented a house that had been vacant for a bit & the prior tenant didn’t do a thorough job cleaning up. Agent indicated the owner would be open to having the house cleaned but I would need to have the house professionally cleaned when I moved out (that was fine w me). I just received the bill from the owner for $250, which is super annoying bc there was no expectation communicated that I would foot the bill for this, more so bc the cleaner did a LOUSY job. My partner and I bought our home back in 2020. We got a good deal, low rate. But we want to move into a more spacious SFH. However, as we all know this market is crazy. Everything we want costs $620k+ and bc of rates it makes our mortgage estimates $3500+. We are currently paying $2k. And it looks we need to sell the house simultaneously as look for a new one or our contingency isn’t as attractive. I know it’s based on personal circumstances. But what would you do? - not move, sell and buy?
