Hi Amazonians,
I am looking for guidance.
I am going to start interview process with Amazon next week. Probably all rounds will be done in 1-2 day time frame.
How/what should I prepare for interview?
Am clueless on what kind of ds & algo questions, system design questions are asked in Amazon interviews.
My techstack: javascript developer- react+Angular.
1. Pls guide me on what/how to prepare?
2. Also, will the interview be solely on da & algo and javascript; or on Js frameworks?

Don’t move cross country for freelance
Move across country because you want to but don’t assume you’ll be hired by this company. Don’t move on the promise of freelance. Ever. It is never a done deal - temp to perm is never a sure thing.
I had a chance to move to NYC for my dream agency and passed because of too much risk. Regretted it ever since. Take chances while you are young... so much easier to bounce back than when you are older.
^yeah totally, I think I'm just gonna hi-ball them and negotiate from there, did some research on how much shit costs and just gonna wing it a little I guess, the worst they can do is come back at me with a lower rate I suppose
^ Why not? Assuming travels and stay are paid.
^obviously not assuming, not relocating permanently, just my lease is up and I'm in a position where I can do this at the moment, just asking for a number not opinions on if I should do it, thanks anyways though guys
Don’t forget when you add up cost of travel and accommodations that you will have to pay around 33% tax on it when you include self-employment tax.
Look at hotel and sublease prices and break it down. There’s no magic number. It depends on where you’re going and where you’ll stay.
This is like my dream agency though and it's freelance to hire, which is the only reason I'm considering it
Add $150 or so to your day rate plus airfare
☝️true. Use that as a negotiating tactic for more, but you can also write it off on taxes next year. Keep your receipts
^ they want me to calculate travel and stay into the day rate, so trying to figure this out
You can find a decent small private room for sublet for $60-80 and then use the rest for transport and food
If it helps, I was reimbursed $160/day for accommodations during a longterm freelance-to-hire position in New York as a junior in 2015. They booked my travel.
It’s weird to include the airfare given it’s a one shot cost. I think that one is fair to leave aside as a sunk cost for this decision. You can probably get a decent one way and it won’t make a huge impact on your daily rate anyway. I assume you’re selling your things or will you ship things over? Again, costs to consider whether they fall on them or you. For that I would say it’s on you since it sounds like you could sell most things and just head out with some check-in bags.
The rent, yes. But also consider the fact that you’d have to pay rent anywhere you live anyhow so calculate the differential to live equally the way you are now - don’t drastically compromise how you live for this opportunity. Then create your day rate based on your research. I think the number you come up with won’t be as obscene. Just make sure your day rate reflects the value you’ve earned, don’t short change yourself. You know how to ask for what you want and have rightfully earned. It’s when you haven’t earned it that makes it hard to fight for.
Good luck!
Good luck OP, nobody gave you a number so I will. Freelance as a Jr in a big NYC agency, I was paid $250 a day + OT after hitting 40 hours for the week. In another big agency is Chicago, I think they were maxed at $275? Idk, some people have thrown out other numbers like $500 as a junior but I honestly never came close to that. Maybe they really were paid that much, idk. But I'm sure I could have asked for more. Ask for $400 maybe?
*for
Right. So they’re not asking you to relocate entirely on the basis of a freelance/possibly perm.
Can’t you work remotely?
What city are you in and what city would you be freelancing in?
^Going from NY to SF and ^^^ I always consider 1/3 less for taxes, which makes me feel like the amount I'm asking for is obscene, when actually it's probably just normal, even for freelance gigs in my city, but i think that's just because I'm a woman and hate asking for shit, which I am trying really hard to change.
