Generally do people get promotion in 18 months or atleast they need to work more than 2 years to get a promotion?

Not looking to make a move anytime soon due to covid but am curious to what everyone else is thinking.

I currently work in commercial banking and have been contemplating the switch to private credit / direct lending. Right now I’m struggling with where we are in the economic cycle as I feel private credit is less secure in downturns but would give me more career upside.
