I wouldn’t update my LinkedIn for the short term contract until the contract was over.
Also, current employment shouldn’t matter until the offer stage. If there’s 5 rounds, I’d wait until after round 5 to discuss timelines. I think any company that is actually going to make an offer would expect to wait at least 2 weeks before a start date, and I would be shocked if a 5 round process at a “well known company” took less than 3 or 4 weeks to complete. That’s a pretty large lead time IMO.
How long is the “short term contract”?
If an offer comes at the end of may, then a conversation can be had.
I know most companies want candidates to start ASAP. But maybe there’s some room to negotiate on both sides.
I had a role where I had the offer in late March, but I had a bonus due in late May. If the new company could wait 2 months, they could save 5 figures in what they would need to pay me to be competitive. They were happy to wait 2 months, knowing that they “had their ideal candidate”, and gave me some materials that I could read up on in my spare time. Most companies will push to accelerate that start date, but in the right circumstance, will wait a bit longer.
Maybe the candidate approaches the short term contract company to leave a few weeks early, and the new company with the full time offer agrees to wait a few extra weeks too, and everybody wins
