I am a senior auditor. Left a previous company to try a different IA team. Now I want to go back to my old company but I’m stuck. I’m qualified for a senior lead role with years of experience and what they are looking for in terms of risk experience but I have not solo lead an engagement. I have co-lead multiple engagements and have managed staff. Should I go back to my old company for more money but the same role or stay at my company with no idea when I will get opportunity to lead? I’m stuck.

Does your old company know you left because you weren’t given opportunity? Do you think that would change coming back in this role?

Ask to have early promotion in your contract and talk about how to get there and your desire to lead projects to demonstrate your performance before signing and upon coming on. In the meantime, you’re at least coming in at a higher salary. If they say no, no harm and you stay where you are.

Since I am not qualified for the senior lead I can go back to my old position, be in that for for at least a year, and hopefully in that time lead an engagement and then can go for the higher role

A year. And yes. I’ve pretty much already done it but at the end of the day, it’s jot my name on the final report under engagement manager.

What do you dislike about your current company?

Mostly to get reports out the door as quick as possible. I feel like we aren’t really doing our due diligence enough. I previously worked at a large bank and tried to help the team with the knowledge I have but a lot people are still suck in the heritage SunTrust/bb&t mindset.
