I am aiming for a role in investment.

Would a position in deal strategy at a Big Four firm or a Portfolio Analyst role at a asset management firm be more suitable

I'm a brand new attorney (passed the Feb 2021 bar) who started an in-house counsel position a few months ago (where my focus is negotiating agreements for the sale of my company's software). I was a contracts manager on an in-house team for 4 years prior, which is why I was able to go straight in-house. I'm entirely skipping out on firm life, which feels both good and bad. Is there anything I should think about getting experience in? How should I go about making sure I am seeing enough things?

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?

I'm interviewing with KKR for a Principal role in their real estate group. All online salary resources are all in alignment with a total comp of $200k+. I'm assuming based on the average salary reported across these portals for principal that those figures apply to the RE group as well. Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research.
