You’re not wrong and I’m not going to try to dissuade you from feeing that way. Trump, with the support of the 69 million people he gave voice to, has basically destroyed the foundations of the United States in just four years.
Sure, we’re still here. I can still go to McDonald’s and Home Depot and buy a Ford, but what we are supposed to be at our core, is on life support.
No but ~70 million who live here while trying to actively make life worse for the rest of us, are.
During Bush and Obama’s presidencies both parties decided winning was their platform. Both have abandoned any belief systems or ethics. It’s about winning for the sake of winning.
Trump took that machiavellian mindset to the next level. Thats part of why I left the GOP and voted for Biden. We havent had a president willing to work with the minority party since the very beginning of Obama’s first term. It has to happen and happen fast.
Grey 1- good points but strained evidence. Particularly with the ACA. There were over 230 hearings between both chambers on the details and progress of that bill up to it's passing. On the opposite side we have the republicans passing a tax cut bill that readjusts over 1/3 of our economy - but they didn't hold a single hearing and talk about a bill made in secret.....
While I think you make some good points here, I would caution the parallels as I find the Obama years were a properly functioning republic, no matter the messiness of the partisanship. When trump came to power, there was a change in the GOP so that they folded their power, votes, and capital into one man's fortune and destiny thereby ripping apart the fabric of the republic.
So one unfortunately reality is that modern Republican orthodoxy doesn’t include a functioning government. Before you Rs flip put recall Grover Norquist’s pronouncement although he doesn’t of abolishing the government he does “want to shrink it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.” His tax cut philosophy is the centerpiece of modern Republican politics. Thus McConnell was happy with 6 years of gridlock under Obama, has done almost nothing in the last 4 years other than conducting messaging votes and but filling the federal courts with purists, and Trump has taken a wrecking ball to executive agencies by demolishing regulations and destaffing them. He’s now decapitating our defense and cybersecurity operations, which isn’t really and R thing but is understandable given his pique over all who oppose him. We are indeed in a very dangerous place and it’s going to get worse in the next 60 days. Buckle up.
No doubt Putin and every other despot in the world is quietly cheering Trump on altho I don’t believe the suggestions I’ve heard that Trump is acting on Putin’s instructions.
It’s been non functioning for years. Started when the Republicans won the senate under Obama and refused to pass anything Obama tried to enact.
