Assuming you will be using Becker since you’re at PwC. I typically spend 2-2.5 hours learning material before work (lecture and mcq) and about 1.5-2 hours after work reviewing the material for that day and moving to cumulative mcqs if I’m doing well
Start with a whatever section will be easiest for you so that you boost your confidence. I took a seven year hiatus and had moved my career to HR when I decided to retake the exam. I chose REG because I had experience in tax. That played well for me because I passed it on the first attempt and felt excited that I could do it even after a long break. Good luck!
Study consistently and recognize you can't cram for these tests.
Use NINJA CPA!
I would start with the easiest section for you first. The easiest section for me was tax because I had a masters in tax and worked in tax. Then I highly suggest far, audit then Bec. Spend time understanding the topics based on the aicpa outline. For example, people will tell you how important the government chapters are for far however per the outline government is 5-15%.. now whether that’s 5-15% of your grade or 5-15% of the exam idk. But don’t sacrifice any of the other chapters for the governmentchapters. I took far twice and the first time I tried to really understand governmental accounting because everyone said it’s “heavily tested” I failed. The second time around I focused on studying based on the outline and did a high level review of governmental accounting and passed. I then used that same approach for the last two parts and passed
Search lazy man cpa strategy on Reddit. It works. I passed and Im hella dumb lol
Thank you so much everyone for your advice. I am inspired by your efforts. Getting back on the horse is hard but I am ready to try again. For those who have experienced the same apprehension, if I can do it, you can as well.
Thank you again.
Also, while some recommend to take the easiest exam first, I was advised to take the hardest first. The reasoning was in the event I didn’t pass my first attempt, my 18month clock wouldn’t ‘start’
At the end of the day, it is all based on preference and how you learn, etc.
Congratulations @senior accountant! That’s incredible. And @tax associate, your post reflects you know what’s going to be best for you. That’s key! I failed to commend you for that.
With any advice, we all need to look within to really understand if that approach fits our unique needs.
Get a tutor. Best decision you’ll make. Start with FAR first since it’s the hardest.
