FYI, I’ve worked extensively with recruiting. This is not something we tell everyone and is an indication that you’re part of a “keep in touch” program, which is a formal mechanism for keeping you engaged with the firm and encouraging you to reapply because you were a genuinely good candidate who just barely missed the bar. I’d highly suggest to go get a little more prep in and try again!!
Thanks appreciate it
I got a similar feedback a year and a half ago. I reapplied after a year (didn’t network much though), and didn’t get an interview. That being said, I’ve heard of success stories from people who did reapply, so it’s all time-dependent. When you do reapply, I encourage you to reach out to them before you apply.
Coach
I had the same experience with BCG last year. Tried again; made it through. It’s worth it
There’s no downside to applying again in 6 months. Take note of the feedback and make sure you work on it. Stay in touch with the partner and follow up when you reapply again. Good luck!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I will definitely keep that in mind
If you did good then why didn’t you make it through? Did he give you other feedback?
Do you know why you didn’t get it? Was it just that they filled the position or an area to polish and work on? I know people who have come back after getting feedback that they were weak in casing and able to get the job.
Definitely reach out to the partner again before you apply. You probably won’t get an interview again unless the partner flags your profile
I fell at the final hurdle at McK recently too. I got some useful feedback which aligned with my own debrief (I knew my performance wasn’t my best). I possibly should have delayed my date due to other distractions but the recruiter seemed under pressure so I ran with it, but that is life.
I didn’t get “stay close” feedback, is that likely to mean no joy with reapplication at later date?
Assume one year
I got similar feedback and got ghosted by the recruiter when I followed up 😭
Which office
The partner is from NYC and I applied to the DC office.
Definitely stay in touch with the partner and reach out again when you reapply!
