I got a written offer today, and the salary’s fine—but the benefits are weaker than my current job. Fewer PTO days, higher health premiums, no 401(k) match. Has anyone ever used benefits as leverage to bump the base salary instead, or is that a dead end in negotiations?

Since 401k and higher health premiums directly affect your take home home pay they’re definitely important to negotiate. It’s hard to put a dollar value on the PTO piece.

PTO has always been the easiest to negotiate in my experience.

My wife has amazing health insurance coverage, so I always ask employers if they would waive that benefit in exchange for a higher salary. (I have a pre-existing condition, and have multiple hospitalizations and surgeries, but I don't share that info with the recruiter or employer.) Sometimes they agree, but sometimes they don't. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Politely request that they match your other benefits, completely separately from any talk of salary. And be prepared to, politely, decline their offer if it means taking a loss. Remember, you have a job and they’re enticing you away.

I generally look at the whole compensation package. I’ve had good luck with companies matching PTO days as long as it’s not too far off. But aside from that it’s hard to separate everything and compare/ negotiate every separate item.

It's worth keeping in mind that we are still very much in an employers market. You should decide ahead of time how important these benefits are in relation to getting the job. No harm in asking, but pressing too hard could end up in them going with the next candidate.

You can definitely use benefits as leverage. I would absolutely negotiate a higher base if they aren't willing to give you more PTO or better benefits. It doesn't hurt to ask and see what they say.

Title on here is out of date but I’ve got over ten years agency experience as a digital producer, highest level being EP and then Executive Director. Feeing underpaid compared to what I hear about client side (current base 110k, 15% bonus + commission)

I’d love to shift to client side as EP or Program Manager and looking for advice on best way to get my foot in the door.

Feels like I’ve got the same experience as those in the roles but submitting an application thru sites is like shouting in

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.

Currently I work for a small company that does the construction of small cell utility poles and roof top sites for the major cell carriers like VZW, T-mobile, AT&T and so on. I am a project coordinator but I do everything under the sun. Created project tracker. Submitti bids, sourcing material, negotiating price on materials, handling post construction inspections, scheduling sub contractors, notifying stakeholders, coordinating with construction managers - property owners - building management.

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

Does anyone have suggestions for what a salary should be for a Digital Marketing Analyst | Paid Social & Performance Media? I have 1 year of experience, the job asks for 0-1 year of experience.
