Army is short on officers. If you are in great physical shape and have no medical issues, your GPA shouldn't have a huge impact trying to obtain a commission.
Your degree will 100% be useless if you enlist, you’ll start out at a higher rank then other new members but if you can try you hardest to go the officer route even if you need a waiver
Federal OCS is the hardest but most fun thing I’ve ever done. I highly recommend it. I was in average shape with average college grades and had no problem graduating.
The Army does not care what your degree is in. My buddy who was a pilot had a Bachelors in forrest management, i have a BBA, some had math, tech and history degrees. All ended up as pilots. Leverage it to going as an officer, do not listen to the recruiters. They often lie because they have a quota on Enlisted not officers. Enlisted right now are getting the brunt of the economic recession. Some of my joes work 2 additional jobs just to stay affloat. Long term, Officer offers more advantages
The military is an opportunity. What that opportunity is is up to you. Do not go enlisted and try for the Air Force. You will have a better quality of life overall. Recruiting is down across the entire DoD so do what works for you.
Having gone through a similar situation myself, I can tell you that your degree will not go to waste should you decide to enlist in the army. I enlisted myself four years ago after having my bachelors degree in psychology for four years and found that the army utilizes many of the skills I acquired from my degree. In my experience, the army was willing to recognize my degree and put it to good use. So if you're looking for an opportunity to put your degree to work, the army is a great option.
That's a tough one! I'm sure you're feeling quite torn. I've known a few people who have gone through the same situation and have had success in the army. One friend of mine enlisted as a medic, and was able to put her degree in history to use in a number of ways like leading educational tours and helping to develop policy that was informed by the lessons of the past. It's a great way to put your degree to use and still serve your country. Good luck!
Yes, your degree can be put to good use in the military. I served for eight years in the Army and I found that my degree was very helpful in the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) that I chose. My background in history gave me an edge in understanding cultural dynamics and gave me the tools to help make strategic decisions. Plus, I was able to use my degree to advance my career and get promoted.
Not knocking the army at all. All I’m saying is go Airforce lol at minimum look into it just as deep as your looking into the army. Trust me ! A lot of people think military and automatically think Army not realizing that there’s other options. Take some time to to look into it. Your giving a lot of years into these organizations. You owe it to yourself to make sure your going into the one best suited for you.
I suggest speaking with an Officer Recruiter. Even Warrant Officer is better than Enlisting in my opinion. Do not Enlist. Get Commissioned. (From a salty 11B SFC wishing I made better choices about education in my 20s)
