Hello 🐟🎏
When will be the retention bonus will be paid if a candidate joined TCS in the middle of the financial year. I.e September'22... Will that be paid on next year's September'23 Month only after completing an year in TCS?
And will the Retention bonus will also be considered as taxable income of the the current year taxes(2022-23)?
Looking for valuable suggestions!!!

Plot twist: make you feel incompetent so that you stay complacent and take the peanuts.
Positive spin: as A1 pointed out, take in the critical feedback if the feedback is reasonable.
I felt the same exact way after mine last week from one particularly difficult partner. They gave me some concrete things to focus on improving that I recognize will help me develop as an attorney but I realize now that I am not getting what I need out of where I am and am applying elsewhere aggressively.
Take the feedback but apply for jobs. A good job isn’t one where it makes you feel down. They should have presented it as a teaching moment and say how they are going to help you as well. Additionally, really good management styles tell you feed back along the way. Not at the end of the year for your review.
That was my issue, the one partner had barely given me any feedback and very little mentorship for the year+ prior and I hadn’t had a review the year before either so this year he just dumped on me. Totally spoiled the firm for me even though he isn’t my main partner and I get most of my work elsewhere. Poor management and if he’d taken an interest in me as a junior associate from the start with proper guidance and feedback most of his comments would have been resolved.
I just had one too. It sucked. I cried in my office afterwards. It sucked that it felt like they were talking at me the whole time and it wasn’t a conversation on how to improve or do better… They also scheduled another review/checkup for next month. I feel the thin ice cracking below my feet… lol
I had the same happen to me. I am on a PIP. Start looking. If they haven’t said how they are going to help you become a better attorney then run
I’m going to go against the grain here a bit. This happened to me, I was so upset like you were, and I lateraled. Lateraling turned out to be a huge mistake. I wish I stuck it out and tried to get a better understanding of the key partner’s expectations, checked in regularly, tried a little harder…
I’ve learned a lot of firms have very little commitment to integrating their laterals despite what they say. Being at a firm with partners who are willing to have difficult conversations with you and give you the opportunity to improve beats being at a firm that tells you you’re a star but throws you out like trash the moment their work slows down.
