Hi, Need some suggestions on career switch. I'm currently working as a firmware developer in Radar SW (2yrs of experience), recently I got a opportunity to switch as pre/post silicon validation engineer at Qualcomm with good package and RSU's. I would like to switch. Any thoughts on my decision? Thanks.

1. You should have it clearly laid out in your contract what your expected working hours are. If you work outside those, it’s your choice. If you feel obligated to do so, talk to your boss or HR to clarify expectations from the company.
2. The only way I would ever connect how much I worked to my salary is if I was an hourly employee. Your salary increases as your responsibilities increase, not because you’re expected to work more hours or “respond to pings on the weekend”.
3. I do not respond to messages out of working hours because I want to send the message to my superiors, peers, and subordinates that I do not expect them to work outside of normal working hours. There are some valid emergency situations, but otherwise, if I do any work later on, I set emails to send at 8am on the next working day and I do not send IMs.
You can only control your actions - not those of others. Try being the change - don’t respond to those pings, but hit them promptly with good responses when you’re back online in normal working hours.
Or go work for someone or somewhere better.
Nope. Number does not matter. Health comes before wealth.
No point earning shedloads if I'm dead and can't use it.
Maybe of it was my own start up... but even then... people need breaks.
Fair enough. I still think we all have a number though 😂
200k would satisfy me rn.
Would not be enough to make me work weekends!
I don’t mind doing it - but I never have - as long as it is not excessive.
I make 350K TC I feel fairly compensated (btw older title).
I doubt pay would sway me but I grew up in the hood so at this point in my life it might. However, I wouldn’t do it in general. Unless I’ve agreed to work over the weekend any messages can wait
