I have a team member whose mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He is Muslim and I would like to send him a culturally appropriate/traditional bereavement gift. Google searches have produced a myriad of results so hoping I can solicit some streamlined recommendations from any of you out there who have better insight into the traditions/culture than I.

Super thoughtful of you. You could send a card and a food or gift basket. Don't send flowers. You could also ask them what their moms favourite charity was and donate to that. Keep it thoughtful, simple and kind.

like

The charity idea is really good, I'm a muslim

like

I would simply send them my prayers and make sure I'm understanding that they may need some time to grieve. I think the gift may depend on the culture he's from, as islam is not a culture but a religion... In other words, a muslim person from China and a muslim person from Saudi Arabia may have different traditions/culture and the same bereavment gifts may not be acceptable.

like

Yeah I think if you includ that in your searches, you may get some more accurate results. Also, it's very thoughtful of you!

like

If they're on your team, some unofficial/extra time off and gift card would be nice.

Tomorrow they are requiring masks again and I was almost in tears when I found out. We have been mask free (recommended) since June and I feel like we are being muzzled again. I am vaccinated, frustrated, and have been off of antidepressants since March. I don’t even want to go into work tomorrow. Anything is better than being virtual and I am trying to look at the bright side, but moving backward still burns. We have parent-teacher conferences coming up and I am hoping that it’s temporary.

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Can you relate? Has your salary / net worth growth dramatically improved your quality of life?

Help - how do I fight claims by scammer healthcare providers?

I recently went to 2 different providers.

Dentist, made appt via Zocdoc to see a dentist that was in network. Another dentist at the location saw me instead who was out of network. I have text evidence they said it would be covered before visit. Claim was denied - asking for ~500 dollars.

Saw a specialist who’s office staff verified my insurance would fully cover the claim. Get the claim, says they are out of network. Owe 600.
