I would try to think more LT. Would this boutique and position improve your long term returns? Is it more prestigious department/firm in a specific field? Would you get more responsibilities? Do you think the people that would be above you have great credentials or would be ready to mentor you?
Long term returns of a good move are overlooked. Learning will bring you much more £ over the rest of your careers than getting a few thousands more right now, when you have at least 25 years of working left
Honestly the only reason I wouldn't take this offer is because the firm is less well known than where I'm currently at (big 4).
I think the growth potential is good and an offer from a big 4 in London wouldn't be that much higher than this for an SC.
SC in London is usually £60k+ but the relevant experience might be something that is bringing your comp down. Additionally, less well known may also be a factor in the lower salary.
Bonus is on the lower end but not unusual either.
Relocation package is standard.
Think about the other things like pension contributions. Lots of big companies match it up to 10-15% of salary before tax. Maybe this company doesn’t offer this level of pension contribution?
Appreciate the comments
What type of firm will also affect if it is good or not e.g. b4/boutique
Good point A1
SC (2YOE) at the big 4 in London can start on ~£38k

Pay in the UK is quite low compared to US. Having said that, SC roles are £50-£65K in my experience

They came back with £58K and £2K relocation. Thoughts? Everything else is the same
Yes, we are! Please do
How many YOE?
What firm are you at?
No
Can you elaborate?
OP where are you currently?
Toronto, moving to London
Senior consultant at IBM would be up to £55k and with that YEO you would be at the upper end of the scale. However, IBM pay quite low. Boutique should be higher than this.
Just curious... you’re not coming to OW are you? Seems in line with what we call “SC”, but that title’s for pre-MBA experienced hire hence the lower comp. It increases fairly quickly though!
You could try networking with the partners in our retail and consumer goods practice but my sense is that they’re not actively looking. Could be interesting if you have a specific skillset (especially from analytics/tech perspective) but hard to say
My friend is relocating from the Toronto office to London and all they're getting is 4k relocation and 2 weeks accommodation - she is also at Deloitte so you're doing really well.
Fair enough! Just thought I'd share - seems like it's a pretty big jump between C and SC which makes me think you still got a pretty good deal
This really depends on which firm you’re going to. Happy to DM to chat about it.
But short answer is no. If you have 5.5 years of experience you should be getting much more than that.
At eyp senior associates get 55k but they only have 2 years of experience. After 3 years it’s 85k...
EYP is more aligned with strategy boutique salaries - I had a conversation with Matt Robb about this once, and things may be diff now but it’s a v diff delivery set up to b4
