Consulting

I have been with my firm for about 8 months now and I hate it. I do like my industry focus but I have a very technical background and my role as a consultant is not playing to my strengths. (contd)

...I feel like I spend all week on the road to sit on the client site to take notes and deliver very high level and seemingly obvious “solutions”. I miss being with friends/family and I feel like I don’t get to spend any time on the hobbies I enjoy. Top it off with a toxic company culture and I want out asap. How long do I have to sick it out before I can leave without having a black mark on my resume for leaving too soon?

Move on asap health and happiness is everything. Who cares if you stayed for 8, 10 or 12 months. Your career is a 30-40 year marathon.

0 days particularly if you’re moving to FAANG eventually you can drop the consulting stint off your resume all together.

OP, I’m on the same boat. Been exactly 8 months and I can’t wait till I get out of this non sense. The bench time is also deep in my practice and not having a established network is also killing my potential. Start looking .. I’m already interviewing. I just dunno how long it’s going to take to leave the firm for something better.

Network and move into alignments. If your wanting to get into salesforce implementations at Deloitte message me. In consulting they put you where they need you not where you want. Sorry OP. A lot of consultants get paid very well to make pretty powerpoints. I’ll sit and be quiet in an air conditioned room and take notes rather than breaking my back for $20 an hour.

This will sound really nerdy, but does anyone keep a spreadsheet of everyone they talk to at their firm or of everyone they network with from other firms? I do that. I feel so nerdy for doing that. 🤓
