I have read so many of you looking for a job for months. I am going on my 4th month and I am getting so discouraged. I have had a few interviews and you think you are 99% hired based on how you left the interview and the comments that were said to you. Next thing you know they are looking at another person and will let you know. You almost but beg to get the role. So you wait a day, no communication. Now the weekend is here. Do I call back again or do I just let it ride a day or two?

I so feel you. I interviewed 3x for a role and finally heard from them yesterday. They want me to do a final interview with the managing partner and that’s the last piece. I feel like I will get an offer but the process is dragging. It has been a 6 week process and counting. I had an interview with another firm and that was 1 on 1 with HR and the attorney I would work with. I was the first candidate and they are interviewing through next Tuesday. In the meantime I’m interviewing on Monday with a third firm so my hope is one of these work out. I’m still applying until I get an offer. Looking for work is exhausting. I haven’t followed up with anyone. I also hate feeling like I’m begging for work. Just hire me already!!! Sending good vibes your way. Things have to change one way or another.

and they will keep plugging away one of those interviewers will see your worth!!!

I have been at this for 18 months. One of two final candidates in 4 interviews and not chosen after I cme in for the final interview. It could be becasue I am over age 50, Black and walking with a very obvious limp. I have had two HR employees ask comment on my disability in the final interview as if they were surprised, and being disabled means I won't be able to do the job that I have 25 years of experience doing. I am at a loss on what to do. Reached out to former contacts and vendors to make connections, but still did not secure the two jobs I was referred to. I had to go back into therapy to get through this. Stay faithful and encouraged as best you can.

like

Also illegal to discriminate based on race and age. I’m appalled that they would ever bring up your disability during the interview process. Or ever. They should never be the one to open that conversation. Wishing the BEST of luck!

It's definitely discouraging. It sounds like they really did like you though. I would try to be patient and not appear desperate or anxious. Did you send a thank you after the last interview? If you already did, then wait a week to follow up again.

like

I believe if we are chasing that says it all. When they want you - you will know. They will calling and emailing you. I wouldn’t bother putting too much energy into composing chase up messages. Their loss.

like

Getting all those comments that make me feel like I am guaranteed the job is the hardest. I know there are no guarantees, but it’s just so tough hearing how great you are for the role, and then rejection, or they don’t say anything at all. I would follow up, but keep looking.

It took me 4 months last year. I ended up taking a contract position because I desperately needed income at that point. Contract position just ended in May and it took 2 months this time. Luckily this time I secured permanent employment. It’s SO hard out there. And SO VERY hard to keep a positive attitude as you’re going through interview after interview. I had one experience that about destroyed my spirit. I went over and above and beyond for a position I thought was my dream job. I spent 2 days creating a professional portfolio for the interview panel. The first 2 interviewers seemed to really like me. But I knew I bombed with the second 2. Keep your head up. Something is going to happen for you. Just keep giving it your all. GOOD LUCK!!

like

Always send a thank you email the next day for the interview opportunity.

like

Totally agree that it’s very discouraging. I would wait a day or two and then follow up as it could just be them working on logistics from the back end

Is there any advantage to telling a company you are interested in working for in the future where you decided to accept an offer from? Or does it not matter? I accepted an offer a week ago with a great company (Company A) that for this season in my life seems like a great fit and only strengthens what I have to offer company B down the road. Company B just sent me a request for interview and I want to keep the door open with Company B but they were just very late in extending an interview.

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
