I just got a raise that looked good on paper, but I'm realizing that after taxes and inflation, it's pretty much nothing but a small dent. The worst part is that I got to speak with my manager and decide what raise I wanted, and I had no idea I could and should have asked for more. How do you decide what’s enough when everything costs more each year?

It’s rough, they tell you it’s a raise, but it barely moves the needle. Next time, do your homework: check market rates, cost-of-living increases, and then confidently ask for a raise that actually makes a difference. Knowing your worth is key, especially when prices are nothing but climbing.

Live and learn! Next time the opportunity comes up, do some negotiating. It doesn't have to be anything complicated, just point out that you're a valuable worker, and you're more valuable as a worker than you were when you started. If you stick to the theme that you've grown in your job you'll make a good case for yourself.

Agreed! Next time be ready with "receipts" of how valuable you are and ask for more!

I was inquire about the cap for the current position. If you’re preforming and feel like you deserve more ask for more

Perspective: monogamy is anti-human nature; in this era where each parent could raise a kid independently, marriage tends to be a shackle on many aspects of life. We live once, why does society expect us to live with 1 person for 60+ years? No wonder divorce rates are through the roof!

S&P Global Anyone here work at S&P Global? I’m a project manager who has been with the company for a few years. My position has changed at review time the last few years, so I’ve never gone through the raise process. What percentages have you seen with the company? I’m feeling a bit overworked at this point and don’t want to have my expectations higher than what is reasonable, but also feel like I’ll need a large-ish chunk of cash to feel better about how much I’m working. Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.

I want to do an MBA in the next 2 years. I’m currently up for Senior consultant promotion but I don’t think I can make good money in consulting till I become Partner. My boyfriend isn’t supportive of this decision. He believes it will alter our plans (marriage, children etc). He also thinks immigration will be a big hassle since I’ve already used my 3 years of OPT. What should I do?

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full. Is it wrong for me to expect either a promotion or to be paid to train this person?
