I just got an offer at a firm. During the interview I asked why the job was open. They told me the last person quit because of family and they told me the associate’s name. I found the associate on LinkedIn. I am tempted to write them and see if they’ll talk to me about the job. What do you think? Is there a down side? Will I get in trouble somehow?

I want to get out of ID so badly. I don’t mind the work but the hours are just killing me. I just started at a new firm less than 6 months ago and I am already desperate to get out. Do you continue to see in-flight interview processes through once you’ve received and accepted an offer? It feels premature to cut the chord on the others, but also the decision between the companies becomes harder. Also afraid of the possibility to go back on the acceptance of the one role in favor of another.

Advice pls. We got our greencard and now my spouse can work. My spouse has been unemployed for more than 2 years. And we noted that it is difficult to get more job interviews and get an offer. My spouse is into programming and has Masters Any suggestion how my spouse can increase chances of getting hired (e.g. get training certifications, apply as trainee, or probably you can refer me to companies who are considerate for immigrants). Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school
