I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
Hi Guys,
I have joined Ofss 1 week back and on second day itself I was allocated to project and onboarding WIP I received mail stating to report back to office 3 days per week under hybrid work model policy. Is this compulsory my base location is 2600 km from my current location as I am joining the citi project its seems difficult for me to grasp things though I have only 1 yr of prior exp by I think my team is expecting a lot so moving to new city and learning at same time is not possible .

It takes a long time at slalom, especially if your skills are in strategy and not coding. Be open to learning and applying your skills in unexpected ways. That said, it is super frustrating because you have to constantly manage doing projects for utilization/comp over holding off for projects you know you will enjoy and/or execute really well.
Start looking at work in other markets (I’ve found more success using my skills that way). I’ve found all my cross market projects really enjoyable.
You won’t use any of your skills unless your skills are ppt and excel. If you are a quant person, prepare to be miserable
Well sooner or later your going to be put on a project where its entirely possible that you will not be using any of your skills at all. If the projects don't exist then find a team you like now before you get put on something you hate.
3 weeks is not long enough to get worried about. Make your skill set and interest know to the people running projects and people selling new work where your skills are applicable. In time, and with your active management, you will get where you want to be. You WILL need to work on projects where your existing and desires skills are not utilized.
OP what is your skill set? Is it something that aligns with work slalom normally gets?
go get a certification. It’s a great way to build your personal resume and add value to your practice. The project work will come, don’t stress.
Since you're already in data, look into Azure data engineering, or even Power Apps. Both in demand right now, having to hire more data engineers and Azure/AWS people constantly.
Guessing the opportunity they hired you for didn't pan out last minute but don't worry, good advice from others in this thread but it will work out
I’d suggest also joining the Slalom bowl and you may get more recommendations there.
