I just took a position as a tax analyst in industry and absolutely hate it. The company overall is okay. The people are great. However, I dont like the work (software mostly) or the rigidity of the rules here. For me, flexibility is key to performing well. Would you stick it out for a few months to give a new job a chance to see if you warm up to it after the shock of leaving public? Or would they appreciate it more if you left early on before they invested a bunch of time in you?

Following because I'm in a similar situation. I personally fall into the latter category.

Very similar situation and the lack of flexibility is killing me. I’ve started casually interviewing again but can’t tell if I’m just being dramatic and will chill out soon with the rules

like

What rules are you talking about?

The strict must arrive at 8 leave at 5 pm life. I hate the added stress it causes. Meaning why can't I come in at 815 and just cut lunch short 15 minutes, or work through lunch and leave 45 minutes early at 4:15. Plus you have to specify your WFH days. You don't just have the flexibility to decide on a week by week basis based on what you have going on.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.
