Absolutely take the offer! We are growing fast and need the support! I don’t think the partner path should factor in your decision - come over, learn a TON for 2-3 years, make more for a few years, build more industry connections and go back if you don’t like it. The option value is super high, imo.
This is the right answer
If you have good WLB right now, at that comp level? You’d better have a very specific goal in mind worth sacrificing your happiness for
If you have good WLB right now and aren’t sure about P path, then I’d lean towards no
I was at S&. don t think the 20% is worth while if you like the industry and the type of work you are doing.
I joined in a similar position as yours - joining a firm at the SM / D level is probably the most difficult and I would counsel against it.
Challenges include the lack of network which makes it tough to get staffed and get pulled into BD efforts, lack of support in general for industry hires, and a bias against you as someone who is not "homegrown".
If you have objectives for joining consulting besides money, it could be worth it but I wouldn't advise it if you're solely looking at the +20%
S3 is right on. I am an experienced manager and my experience is 100% aligned with what S3 said.
I declined, thanks everyone
Your new WLB is going to be bad. Covid is not the moment to switch into consulting. Stick with your industry job particularly if the hours are defined.
I’m early 30s but don’t know if I want to do the partner path.
OP I am sharing this because I get a sense we may have some similarities. I am inching towards mid thirties and made the move out of a big 4 strategy consulting practice last year. I was a second year SM with no WLB and the path to P becoming difficult every year. With a kid on the way - I took a call. Unless you really want to make P and then spend another 10/20 years till you vest, its not worth it
I made 300 as an SM1
Nope. Top bucket as an SM is ~350k.
If you wanna go on P path, then yes. If you have no interest - or that you will not make P before you hit 50 (at PwC) you will not be able to vest in retirement and thus prolly not worth it...

SM1 think is 220k base, our fiscal year ends june so you would not get a bonus until oct 2021. This years bonus is expected to be subpar, who knows about next year. So if your 240k is pretty gauranteed I would not count on a 20% bump given how much of the SM comp is tied to bonus and potentially lower bonus paid next year due to Covid. Lets say you got a 25% bonus youd be at 275k, which is totally possible with Covid and you being a new joiner. Would you take on 50% more hours for this pay bump?
MBB for strategy or bust
