I need help in choosing from the following exit opportunities: Internal Audit from a well-known bank with better WLB and higher comp vs financial reporting role at a highly rated investment fund with longer hours, less pay. I really couldn’t see myself in doing IA for the rest of the career but should I give it a try? On the other hand, I feel that FR opens up more career opportunities in the future. Any insights are appreciated!

I’m in a similar situation. It all depends on your end career goals. The bank is is paying you more because these positions are difficult to fill and they want you to stay for a couple of years. If you take the IA offer and don’t like it, you will be back to interviewing for the same exact jobs now. If you stay in IA for a couple of years, it will be even more difficult to break into non IA roles since you became specialized. At the end of the day, I recommend focus on a role that matches your career goals and not focusing on a one time pay out for a higher salary/WLB

like

All good. Banks value their IA function and you will be well respected. I’ve heard sometimes the bank will allow transfers as well. IA at the bank can have good growth as well. Most likely you will max out as Chief Executive Auditor at 300k + bonus. Recruiters will tell you anything so you take a job. They earn a commission on you. I sent you a PM to see if we have the same job offer, bank, and recruiter.

Sounds like FR is the better option in your situation

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?

Looking for opinions. I’m an IW with 2 yrs experience working from home at a Fortune 500 company w/ excellent benefits, target salary 75k. I was previously offered a job at another company where the 75k salary was guaranteed for the first year. Most people make much more than this once their comp fully ramps up, but, I would have to work in the office. I declined the offer, but now the CEO wants to meet with me several months later. Would I be crazy if I asked for 100k guaranteed salary?

Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

The other positions don’t interest me as much.
