Info systems and data science would likely be a plus. The work generally involves assisting tax teams or tax departments to do work that is data intensive. I have never done a tax return for a client but I have done specific calcs that are used for returns or other specific tax filings.
I would think you could be hired as a senior depending on the need of the group.
What do you want to do? What experience do you have? Where do you want to work? There where can have a big impact on what you do as the services seem to be mainly based out of specific offices.
I'm TTT national but I don't work at the national office. I would definitely brush up on at least 1 of those languages just so you can intelligently talk about it if asked in an interview. I doubt that anyone would ask you to write code but I have heard of it happening once. I would recommend SQL over python to brush up on. I have personally seen SQL used a lot but very little python.
Tax teach teams/groups often have an area of focus. My team is hiring and our pay is on the consultant pay scale. Some teams have great work life balance, but a few don't. National is better than regional in my opinion, but I'm not really sure why.
From what I have seen general knowledge of programming is beneficial but no specific language is a must. I have learned 2 more languages since starting and I don't use either of them too much. Understanding of databases and automation is also a plus. You will likely have to learn on the fly.
What’s the exist opportunities if you’re in this group? I guess it depends on what you’re assigned?
I don’t think they are currently hiring but I would imagine they can take you as a senior. I declined an offer with that team last year
They came with 120k but I asked for 130k and they matched. This is NYC. Caveat...I’ve been a senior for 4 years since no CPA.
I thought about the same thing last night. I have Alteryx and automation background as well as basic knowledge in SQL/ python. I am getting too much work (no work and life balance while being underpaid) due to my skillset so I plan to exit. But I haven't used SQL/ python in work environment so I am not sure what to expect. Any good resources?
I think TTT is building an alteryx team, and that team is run by a partner who came from PwC tax.
Knowledge on tax software, Alteryx, and Microsoft 365 will be helpful. But as EY1 mentioned, most will be learn on the project. I believe all B4s have similar groups, mind if I ask why you’re thinking of switching from Deloitte to EY?
Our team is very sensitive in moving internally, and also has one of the largest turnover rate in the firm. They are pretty unsupportive of moving teams, and given the current layoffs and all that, i dont feel comfortable with my team knowing that i am intending to switch teams because then they will just fire me lol
