I’d set aside $2000 for emergencies and use the rest to pay toward the credit card debt. Having at least a little bit in savings first is important so you don’t add to the credit card debt if something bad happens
I 100% agree with this. Putting some into savings and the rest towards the debt is a great plan. The problem with having no emergency savings at all is that you will end up relying on credit cards again if an emergency comes up.
So sorry for your loss. Set aside $1k for emergencies, then pay off debt. Thats the fastest path to wealth.
Sorry for your loss…
Use part of this to pay off your credit card debt and keep some if you can (maybe $1,000) for emergencies. Put this emergency fund in a HYSA account. You can use this money when you want, but at least, you’ll earn money on it. Let me know if you have questions about it or want a referral code to open one on wealthfront (5.5% APY for 3 months and 5% after)
Yes. Please send me a referral code. Thank you.
I’m sorry for your loss. I’d say it depends on your financial picture and how much your credit card bills are. Normally I’d say clear debt first but emergency funds are important so I’d say split it because you’ll have cash on hand and can pay the credit cards later if needed.

If you have credit card debit it makes the most sense to pay that off before saving for an emergency. Worst case you pay off the credit card then have an emergency and just need to put more on the credit card, but at least you didn’t pay interest on the mean time. If you save for an emergency while you have credit card debt you are just guaranteeing you will pay interest on the debt even if you never have an emergency. Now as soon as you pay off the debt your next step should be to save for an emergency.
What is your interest rate on your credit card?
They are over 20%
Sorry to hear about your loss. May her soul RIP.
I would suggest to have your financial analysis done. Lot of people offer it for free. I do it same way. I educate people and help them understand some basics of finance which helps them to take correct decision.
Thank you.
