Top consulting firms right there!!

Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

I work in a group with roles that sound like OPs at PwC. Not really client facing but not internal support. We definitely do not replace women who go out on maternity leave. Or men on paternity. We either get a temporary replacement or just spread the work around.
Anyway OP, check your policies and maybe HR (with the knowledge your interests and theirs are not altogether aligned). It smells wrong but there is probably not much you can do with you old role. Best probably is to try and get yourself some runway to find a new similar role or a new job. Hugs this must be super stressful.
Contact a lawyer, or at least post on a law-related bowl, forum or reddit. Getting rid of someone right after leave is questionable, even in consulting.
Contacting HR/ethics without doing your homework could backfire if you say the wrong thing. Or they may start looking for dumb reasons to fire you with cause.
Ideal scenario: you contact a lawyer, and are instructed to use specific language in an email to HR/ethics. HR reads through the lines and sees that you are well informed or lawyered up. They decide it is cheaper to keep you around even on the bench than risk a legal fight or possible scandal. Your job is then safe for 6 to 12 months. They might even magically find a project for you.
Aren’t there legal protections against this? I thought I remember something about taking LOA for protected reasons meant you were guaranteed to a role of similar nature when you returned.
A3 if you’re a primary care giver you should be fine.
If you’re really worried about getting fired, ask your RM to be put on the recent engagement that our bowl has been talking about.
Yeah, for sure
Wouldn’t this be like perfect grounds for a wrongful termination suit?
Associate 1, actually at Accenture our local HR is very supportive of the employees and always finds a solution or relevant policy to support the problem at hand.
OP, I highly recommend calling Ethics or submitting an Ethics request so at least it’s logged and you can get some type of protection. This sounds underhanded.
KPMG is firing people? Ooh wow 😳...
Start looking for jobs 🙆🏾♀️. I saw on LinkedIn some people are still hiring.
No, not firing anyone (yet at least)
There’s a staffing need for a massive project that needs any warm bodies. Try to get on that.
Pretty sure they are staffing across all groups for this project
From my limited knowledge it’s normal to staff someone else in a vacant role, in Consulting. The Consulting model works when a practitioner is utilized and performs well, when those metrics aren’t met, those folks are at risk for lay offs as the firm is losing $. If you have low utilization because you were out on maternity, your coach would need to explain that to Talent at year end, or perhaps you can meet with your leader from your ‘department’ as well as your HR rep. I don’t think the layoff is related to your maternity at all, but look up the laws in your state. If you were previously a top performer, you should not be at risk, Tap into your network and find Partner support.
I don’t get it, are you a consultant or no? Also, it doesn’t sound like your coach said you’re actually being considered to be laid off, rather gave you advice to get staffed ASAP..that’s normal advice in Consulting (if you’re a consultant)
Agreed, don’t talk to ethics or HR. HR is there to protect the company from you, not the other way around lol.
