I gave my agency a number, realized I had lowballed myself, and asked for more. They gave it to me. Can’t hurt to ask!
It's never too late to ask for more. You have until you sign every ability to negotiate a higher rate. Once you sign though it'll be much harder to ever get an increase to the effect that you want.
In terms of how you renegotiate I would engage sooner than later and let them know what your desired rate is. Don't frame it is I am hoping to make this much vs after considering our conversation in the type of work involved I would like to revise my rate to the following.
I am happy where I am. but I have been approached for a compelling opportunity and low-balled myself in the initial conversation thinking I wouldn't be interested. But then I am after talking to them. And it would require relocating to a different city. So I think asking for an additional $10, 000 or 20k a year or more from what we had discussed given the nature of the move and the seniority of the role I am more than okay in setting a higher bar when it comes to negotiating the actual salary if I were to get an offer.
Wait. So are you saying that you accepted a freelance gig at a lower rate than you'd like, and now want more to do the freelance gig? Or are you talking about the possibility of negotiating a full-time job offer at a higher rate after the freelance contract is up?
The full time negotiations is not the freelance job. You can renegotiate. Also, if it was the first time working with them as a freelancer, just tell them you gave them a new client deal.
