I think I’m next on the chopping block at work. I’ve been awake since 4am trying to learn new skills to be employable outside of insurance. Back to ground zero. I want the change but it’s just finding the next employer. I’ve been having so much anxiety at work it is paralyzing. So what should my response be when I have the meeting and they let me go?

Following this post. I am sorry you are in that situation. I also want to change so badly too. I have so much anxiety every day getting to work :(

I really want to find something else that does not include claims. Not sure what :(

like

how much severance they are giving would be my first question

If you have an actual meeting, and not an impersonal email, be prepared to ask some practical questions. Find out when you can expect your last paycheck, whether you'll be compensated for PTO, and if there's a severance package. You should also ask about the healthcare plan. And there could be other things, like if you have company equipment in your possession, or you might be owed bonuses. Sorry to hear you're going through this anxiety, but it is smart of you to want to prepare for the eventuality.

like

I’m so sorry you're going through this. That kind of stress and uncertainty can be absolutely draining — especially when you feel like you’re just waiting for the axe to fall. It’s honestly really brave of you to be up learning new skills and trying to plan ahead. That’s not easy when you’re running on anxiety and little sleep.

If it does come to that meeting, I’d say keep it professional, but also be kind to yourself. You could say something like, “I appreciate the opportunity I’ve had here. While this is hard, I’m ready to focus on what’s next and grow in a new direction.” That kind of calm, forward-focused energy can leave a good impression — and more importantly, it’ll help you walk out with your head up. I was recently laid off within the last two weeks with no warning whatsoever after a new VP came in and just gutted my department. It was honestly a blessing in disguise because I was so unhappy there - I just wanted to leave on my own terms.

You’re not starting from zero — you’re starting from experience.

Life is about challenge with new opportunity , let it go while it brings about new face.

I'm sorry you are in that situation. Having been through that exact situation I understand the anxiety and stress. I would keep it professional, and find out what you can expect to receive (ie. severance, last pay check date, PTO pay out, bonus, effective date for last day of health insurance, what equipment you need to return and arrangements will they make for you to return them.)

This could be an opportunity to try something new.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

Any thoughts if Virtusa would be better or HSBC India for life insurance domain as business analyst.

Which companies have best WLB, least stressed DS/DA roles? I’ve been suffering from some immunology issues and stress from work would worsen it, therefore I want to move to a company/role with good benefit (esp. healthcare) and great WLB (little chance of PIP, etc). Doesn’t have to be high-paying, as long as it can support my life (single) and long-term medical cost. Thanks in advance.

I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Graduating with my finance degree in about a year. I took a part-time healthcare position fill my employment gap but most of my previous experience is in manufacturing logistics and customer service. With my background, how do I break into a finance or accounting role? What positions do I apply for? I would like to make at least 45-50k a year min starting if possible.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?
