I took the a J2 in march because my J1 was super low key. Didn’t really care about it and just wanted to coast.

Now I was laid off at J1 and have to pivot to J2 as my primary. It sucks, but thank god for OE or my family would be in such a terrible spot.

This is why we OE

It’s insane that corpos are trying to punish people for looking out for themselves. Imagine how it must have been if you had no idea about a layoff coming, but they already made that decision about laying you and 100s more several months ago, and they still squeezing every single day out of you while telling you that you have a great career at the company until that inevitable day. It would be a fools game to trust an employer these days. And they did that to themselves to satisfy their financial overlords.

Today slalom laid off 7%. What an insanely different experience when you’re overemployed! Having been OE for over a year now, it’s mind boggling that people don’t OE in order to go through the trauma of a layoff! Never again.

Considering an offer to go from firm (4 YOE) to become a privacy/product counsel for a tech company (non-faang). One concern for me is the potential of a recession in late 22 into 23 with the fed rate hikes. My fear is if that happens, me being on the chopping block as new in house counsel. If I stayed at the firm, I feel reasonably secure as an associate of not being laid off due to the market. How do in house counsel positions typically fare during lay off cycles? Any experiences to share?

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

The severance package at Meta for laid off employees almost makes it nice to be laid off depending on what your personal situation is….. personally wouldn’t mind getting 4+ months of full pay to reset and think about what’s next 😬

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I just spoke with paid family leave and I no longer qualify even though I had been paying into the program (thanks NY).. I already applied for unemployment but doctors are telling me I’ve got 10-14 weeks left in this pregnancy.. so stressed having twins and being unemployed, no maternity leave, no paychecks coming in, and I’ve been applying but not a single interview.. just ugh. 😭
